When is the best time to contact a moving company?

As soon as you know you’re moving, it’s probably a good idea then to start the ball rolling.  If you’re moving within the same city, or around States then your move should be booked at least 10 days in advance.   If you’re moving overseas or relocating to different state, then your move should be booked at least 4 weeks in advance.  This means you’ll need to contact moving companies a couple of weeks before this again – so that you have a chance to get the surveys done, make your comparisons and then choose a moving company that best meets your requirements.

How do I know if a company is reputable?

This is a good question and one that is very important. How much will my move cost?

There are many variables that factor into the overall cost of a relocation, e.g. the volume to be packed and moved, any fragile items or works of art that require specialty crating, mode of transport, transit insurance and whether or not you require additional services.  During the premove survey, our Consultant will discuss all aspects of your move to ensure we have a full account of what you require, so that we can provide you with a relocation plan that meets your needs and fits into your budget. 

How long does it take to move?

Depending on the volume of packing that needs to be done, and the size of your home – this can vary.  A standard 3 bedroom home can take 2-3 days at the origin location to accommodate a pre-pack, a full packing day and then a loading day.    Delivery can usually be completed within a day.  The transit time varies again – depending on where your goods are moving from and to.  For domestic moves, it would be reasonable to add another day for the truck to travel to the new city – for international moves, a 4-8 week transit on the water is reasonable to expect (although this also depends on the shipping schedule).  You also need to allow another 7-10 days at destination for the customs and quarantine clearances etc.

Does Jumbo Moving And Storage have secure storage facilities?

Yes.  Jumbo Moving And Storage operates modern storage.  We have in excess of 25,000 square metres of storage available for our clients’ short term and long term requirements.   All our facilities are compliant with all building codes – including floor loading and earthquake standards. 

Will the crew help us with dismantling and reassembling items?

Our service proposals are based on a door-to-door service which includes assistance to dismantle items at the origin location (e.g. beds or tables) and reassemble these at the new location.

Can I pack my own things?

There are some things that are ok for you to pack ahead of time, e.g. books, linen or clothing – however you need to ensure that you have good quality packing materials and you’d have to leave the cartons open so that they could be inspected prior to moving.  With regards to delicate or fragile items (“breakables”) we would strongly recommend these be professionally packed by a moving company.  For international shipments, most countries have very strict regulations with regards to what is packed - especially with any items that are considered restricted or prohibited from importation.  It is therefore preferable that your shipment be professionally packed to avoid any unnecessary delays or problems at destination.

How do I insure my possessions?

Once your move is confirmed with Jumbo Moving And Storage, we will get you to complete an Insurance Survey or Certificate of Insurance prior to the pack/uplift of your personal effects.

How do I make a claim?

Should any of your items be damaged in-transit, we would get you to complete a claim form and upon receipt of the completed form, Jumbo Moving And Storage would work with its Insurance Broker to ensure prompt settlement was achieved.
